Opening the Black Box for you

Business storytelling is a powerful way to communicate your message. “Okay, I believe you”, you may say after you’ve gone through this website. “So now what? Where can I use this?”

You may have questions like:

  • How do you get started?
  • What does it mean to learn to tell business stories?
  • How do you get stories out of people’s heads?
  • How do you turn these into business stories?
  • Is this the right thing for your organisation?

To help you answer such questions before you embark on a fully fledged project, I offer a workshop.

You want to make a business point - let me show you how

In the workshop you open the black box of business storytelling. You will see that it is not so much an art as a skill. There is no arc, no seven stages that a hero goes through, no inner Thespian to discover. There is just a business point that you want to make. Get something important across that you want your listeners to remember. Perhaps you want to inspire them, set them to action.

You will experience storytelling for business in 3 sessions of an hour and a half each. You will begin to learn a new skill. I will tell you a bit about the theory and will hand you a few models. You will practise with examples taken from your own organisation.

We’ll get together with a number of people from your management team, maximum five.

The programme looks as follows. I have put the purpose of each session in italics.

Session 1: The Essence

  • Why stories make sense
  • Making a business point with a story
  • You get an assignment
Your assignment is to record a video in which you tell a story. Use what you have learned. You will send the video to me and I will give feedback before the next session.

You will understand the essence of a business story. You will begin to feel its impact and get some practice.

Session 2: Connect to Your Audience

  • We watch and discuss the videos
  • Connecting with your audience
  • Assignment
You record a video in which you connect to your listener(s) using a story. Submit and get feedback.

You will understand how to make a connection and keep your audience interested. You will improve your skill.

Session 3: Apply Storytelling to Your Business

  • We watch and discuss the videos
  • Communicating a decision
  • One of you tells a story in which you communicate a decision
We will discuss this: what went well; what could be better? How can you use this in practice?

You will appreciate the scope of business story telling and how to use it yourself – better skilled than before.

We can do the workshop on-line or by getting together physically.

You can make an informed decision

  • After the three sessions we evaluate. Questions we will go into:

  • What did you learn?

  • What would stroytelling do for you if you used it in your organisation?

  • How and where could you start?

  • Which steps to take next?

A few pre-requisites you need to know

There must be at least a day between each session. To keep momentum not much more. A good schedule would be: Monday – Wednesday (or Thursday) – Monday.

In order for the workshop to be effective, everyone who starts with the first session must complete all three.

Before we start, I’d like to have a chat with every participant so that we can get to know each other.

How much this will set you back

The cost of the workshop is €1000, ex. VAT.
